I take photos of Dyke Marsh from my balcony so frequently that when I share them on my Facebook page, I label them “Deja View,” a play of course on deja vu (translated from French as “already seen”). But this morning, I experienced something more akin to jamais vu! Translated as “never seen” it is something that seems familiar but is nevertheless strange. The water in the marsh was a bright, almost neon, green color!
Below is the view from my balcony this morning. And, while it was filmed about ten minutes earlier than the rooftop photo above, and thus the morning light was still coming up, I had never seen the water so green; and I’ve been taking pictures/videos here since 2013!
County, State, and National Park Service representatives came to investigate. But besides eliminating the possibility of it not being from a sewage leak, nothing could be determined. Wastewater was on the scene quickly, but by the time others arrived most of the green had flushed out of the marsh with the outgoing tide. Now I wait for the tide to return, and wonder what it will bring.
